Locals have lunch or dinner in restaurants outside of the city centre. If you want to sit down with locals to have lunch or dinner then here are some ideas:
Brikk café and restaurant in Hafnarfjörður, town of the elves. Brikk offers a soup and great bread of different kinds at lunch time. Nice atmosphere and good prices. Popular among the locals.
Mathús Garðabæjar is a great restaurant approximately 10 minutes away from Reykjavik city centre. It offers both lunch and dinner, great atmosphere and sensible prices. Very popular among locals.
Fjörukráin The Viking Village is a restaurant in town Hafnarfjörður known for live music and Vikings that tend to stop buses and kidnap the tourists. Fjörukráin is the quieter part of the restaurant and that’s where the locals like to go for dinner. Staff dressed in “Viking” outfit.
Bistro Kaffihús Vesturbæjar is a humble little café and bistro in the western part of Reykjavik, located close to a public swimming pool. Locals go there to sit down in good company. Great as a combination to go to the local swimming pool and then sit down for some refreshments.
Gastro Pub Lækur in Laugalækur, Reykjavik. Popular among locals to have lunch but offers nowadays also accommodation for tourists.
