Mt Hverfell (or Hverfjall) is a tephra cone in the Myvatn area in north of Iceland. The mountain is 420 metres above sea level, or close to 1500 feet, and it is a part of the Krafla fissure zone. It took shape during an eruption 2500 years ago.
Mt Hverfell is great for short hikes. It belongs to a protected area but there is a short trail to the top and it’s a delight to take that trail and have a look into the crater. When you stand on the top of the crater you can enjoy the beautiful view over the surrounding areas.
